Clarice reels in a Mickey Mouse Athletics record 4 TDs in beating Wild Mavericks
Minnie Mouse threw five touchdown passes, including four to Clarice, and ran for another score in leading the Bow-Tique Bow-Dazzlers past the Wild Mavericks to a 46-21 victory.
The Wild Mavericks (2-6), a week after almost upsetting Pete and the Catamounts football team, grabbed the lead with a touchdown on the opening drive of the game. But the Bow-Dazzlers (5-3) gave up just 35 yards the rest of the first half and did not allow another first down until the fourth quarter, a span of 12 possessions by the Wild Mavericks and 46 straight points by the Bow-Dazzlers.
The Wild Mavericks, which came into the game scoring 20.86 PPG and allowing 28.7 PPG, took a 7-0 lead over the Bow-Tique Bow-Dazzlers when Ben Ali Gator threw 38 yards to Clarabelle Cow for her second career TD reception.
Then Minnie took control of the game. The lifelong sweetheart of Mickey Mouse finished 15-of-26 for 261 yards and was near perfect until she was picked off with under two minutes left in the fourth quarter.
By that time, the victory was assured, putting the Bow-Tique Bow-Dazzlers a win away from becoming playoff eligible.
Three of Minnie’s four touchdown passes in the first half were to Clarice, including two scores in a span of 37 seconds late in the second quarter. Minnie threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Clarice with 44 seconds to go, then the Bow-Dazzlers got the ball back two plays after the kickoff when Gadget Hackwrench forced and recovered a fumble by Horace Horsecollar at the Wild Mavericks 17.
Two plays later, Clarice made it 30-7 with a 17-yard TD reception.
Clarice also had a 30-yard TD catch in the first quarter.
Minnie Mouse scored on a 27-yard run and passed 13 yards to Clarice for another TD in the third quarter. The Bow-Dazzlers made it 46-7 on a safety when Yo Yo Flamingo fumbled the ball out of the end zone on an Wild Mavericks muffed punt. Minnie also threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Ortensia in the second quarter.
Acorn Club to Bow-Dazzlers Football
Before setting the single game record for the most touchdown passes caught in a Mickey Mouse Athletics football game, Clarice was already a celebrity at the Acorn Club where she worked and sang during the evenings.
It was the only time in the history of Chip ‘n’ Dale that the two weren’t working together, and though it’s been a long time since that night of March 21st, 1952, a performance like this will undoubtedly raise a couple chipmunks’ eyebrows around the league.
