Stingy D, hard-charging Bulba lead Dark Dynasty past Aviators
Stingy D, hard-charging Line lead Dark Dynasty vs Aviators
At 250 pounds, Taurus Bulba is not the prototypical running back. He is a blue steer who spends his time dressed in a red business coat with each pair of gold buttons vertically on its left side, white dress shirt, yellow necktie, lavender dress pants, and brown dressed shoes.
Villainous and malicious acts, not ball carrying, are usually his chief duties. But the Disney villain from the TV Series Darkwing Duck had his number called 16 times and responded with 122 yards and two touchdowns in Dark Dynasty’s 28-7 win over the Aviators.
Afterward, Bulba admitted he was as surprised as anyone. “Giving every ounce of energy and not focusing on me, but my on my teammates gave me something extra each time I touched the ball. It wasn’t the plan tonight, but it sure felt good,” he said.
“I could tell after Bulba’s first carry he had gained some confidence from last week,” Glomgold said, referring to last week’s win over the Diamond Ducks when Bulba failed to reach his goal of 100 rushing yards.
Bulba capped first-half drives of 99 and 64 yards with short touchdown runs.
Glomgold said Dark Dynasty (2-0) would normally throw the ball against the look the Aviator’s defense gave them, “but we weren’t passing the ball.”
While praising Mortimer’s scrambling (14 carries, 93 yards), Glomgold said when his quarterback watches the film, he will see missed opportunities for open receivers.
The Aviators (0-2) managed only 261 total yards against the Dark Dynasty, and had to go just 9 yards for its only touchdown after Dark Dynasty’s lone turnover.
“Our defense is improved,” Glomgold said. “As long as we don’t turn it over, we’ll be fine.”
Just before halftime, Dark Dynasty made a game-changing goal-line stand. The Aviators failed to score on three plays from the Dark Dynasty 1-yard line, allowing them to go to intermission with a 14-7 lead.
“We knew we had to stop them going to the half,” said nose tackle, Phantom Blot, who led the Dark Dynasty defense with 13 tackles. “We did our job and shut them down.”
The Aviators threatened again on the opening possession of the third quarter when quarterback Rockhead Rooster connected with receiver Clara Cluck for a 50-yard gain. But just as Clara was about to cross the goal line, Dark Dynasty defensive back, Idgit the Midget, dislodged the ball. It rolled out of the end zone for a touchback and the Dark Dynasty retained their seven-point lead.
