Clara Cluck is the team captain of the Aviators football team and sings an opera-style national anthem. She also started in The Little Wise Hen (1934).

Clara Cluck is an athlete whose sole interest in Disney Sports Football League is to perform The Star-Spangled Banner before Aviators home games. Despite wearing her opera stage costume consisting of a broad-brimmed hat with an ostrich feather since the 1930s, she doesn’t mind wearing a helmet and pads once a week on gameday.

She became team captain of the Aviators due to her previous Disney Animated Shorts relationships with various athletes around the league; Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Clarabelle Cow, and Daisy Duck. Though her friendships with them didn’t begin until 1934, acknowledged in the Orphan’s Benefit, she actually appeared at their showing of Mickey’s Mellerdrammer in 1933. For the next six years, she worked the stage as an operatic diva with ease and performed Bel Canto style of Opera songs with Clarabelle on the piano in Mickey’s Grand Opera (1936), Mickey’s Amateurs (1937), Mickey’s Birthday Party (1942), and Symphony Hour (1942). Anytime Mickey would organize an event in which he would be performing with his friends, Clara was a guarantee to show up.

Since then Clara Cluck has increased the number of appearances, both in cinema and television, but has never been as important as she was from the 1930s to the 1940s.

As with many Disney characters, she was given small cameos in “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” (1983) and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” (1988). She had some appearances in Mickey Mouse Works (1999), where she lived right by Diamond Ducks Daisy Duck. She also appeared in House of Mouse (2001).

The Wise Little Hen (1934)

Depending on which Disney historians you ask, Clara Cluck debuted in the 1934 Mickey Mouse cartoon Orphan’s Benefit, but a very similar chicken played the lead role in “The Wise Little Hen” (June 9, 1934), as both characters were voiced by the same person, Florence Gill.

Clara Cluck played the part of a wise hen preparing to plant wheat. Both of her neighbors, Peter Pig and Donald Duck, act as if they have a stomach bug in order to not have to work. She is then helped by her chicks.

When harvest time comes, Clara asks them again for help, but they still fake a stomach ache. Once again, the chicks help Clara.

When the harvest is over, Clara goes to the stove to make various cook corn dishes for herself and her chicks. She decides to invite her neighbors who, are still pretending to be ill.

But when Clara explains the reason for her invitation, they miraculously recover. She then goes home and comes back with a basket on which Donald and Peter rushed to immediately, believing it was a delicacy. Instead, it turned out to be castor oil.

Midway through the story, Clara realized her neighbors were lying about their stomach aches after boards from her clubhouse fell showing them shaking hands after getting out of work.

Double Date (1960)

Aviator players, Clara Cluck and Rockhead Rooster, go on a double date with Quack Pack’s Donald Duck and Diamond Duck’s Daisy Duck. Though Donald has always been difficult to impress, Rockhead’s interest in everything from football strategies to game jerseys charms Donald so much that they neglect their dates who get annoyed and end the double date early.

Double Date Don (2001)

In a very peculiar Valentine’s Day episode from Mickey Mouse Works, Quack Pack Donald Duck finds himself in the middle of a mistaken love affair due to his gift to build a brick wall for Daisy Duck and the influence of a soap opera on Clara Cluck. Though Clara actively pursued him with dancing and a somewhat R-rated performance followed by a huge kiss on the lips, Daisy stopped them right before they were wed.

Despite Clara’s absence from other Disney media and statistical ranking lists, Clara has remained a major supporting character in the Disney Comic Books and popular athlete in Mickey Mouse Athletics Football League.
